πΊπ¬ UPDF Operation Shujaa killed over 400 ADF rebels in 2022- Defense Minister
πThe Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Vincent Ssempijja has boasted of the success of UPDF in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He says that in 2022 alone, 424 terrorists of the Allied Defence Forces (ADF) were killed. He made the remarks while appearing before Parliamentβs Defence and Internal Affairs Committee, where the Ministry had appeared to respond to queries raised about the sector during the consideration of the 2023/2024 National Budget Framework Paper.

πThe Buganda Kingdom Initiative of ‘Mwanyi Telimba Season 2023’ has been launched today Wednesday in Busiro Sub County with opening of a coffee shop. Under this initiative, the Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga will traverse different coffee experts advising and encouraging coffee farmers in several sub counties, ending with Masulita Sub County where he will address Kabaka’s subjects and convey Kabaka’s message. He advised farmers to embrace coffee farming to help them fight poverty.

πThe Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa has warned individuals who influence children to sexual behaviour to “allow the young generation go and explore feelings naturally”. Tayebwa was launching the legislative agenda for children at Parliament. He said this agenda will help Parliament as an institution to pass laws that safeguard children against emerging threats including homosexuality and sexual harassment.

The State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo on Tuesday confirmed that exams are likely to be released on Thursday February 09 2023. Uganda National Examination Board has briefed the minister of education today about how the senior four students who sat for the 2022 UCE exams performed before they are released.

πΊπ¬ Police to arrest more suspects as Court defers Abitex trial on Freedom City stampedeΒ
πCourt on Tuesday heard that Police are in the process of apprehending more suspects over the New Year eve stampede at Freedom City Mall. The revelation was made by the State Attorney, Ms. Carol Apio when the case in which music promoter Abbey Musinguzi, commonly known as Abitex, together with Elvis Francis Jjuuko appeared before Grade One Magistrate at Makindye Court for the mention.
βInvestigations in this matter are still ongoing and we are going to apprehend others still at large,β Ms Apio said. The trial Grade One Magistrate, Mr Igga Adiru adjourned the case to March 7 for further mention.

πUganda Police has rearrested a suspected child trafficker after he skipped bail. Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson, identified the suspect as Sabil Siragye. He said the suspect has been engaged in women and child trafficking in Arua, Maracha and Nebbi districts.
πΊπ¬ Police refutes alleged torture ofΒ Kasese 80-year old suspect
πSecurity agencies have clarified that Constantine Muhonja, 80, arrested from Kasese collapsed and died in a bathroom while in detention but was not tortured to death as the Opposition had alleged. Addressing a news conference at Police headquarters Naguru, Fred Enanga the police spokesperson explained that an inquest was made by a coroner and during investigation, the 12 suspects with whom Muhonja shared custody were interviewed and cause of death established as being accidental that led to a fatal chest injury. According to the coroner, there is no evidence of police misconduct, torture or ill-treatment against the suspect while in custody. The police spokesperson has warned members of Opposition against targeting policeβs specialised units but rather focus on helping security in fighting wrong elements who are associating with them.

πPolice in Nwoya have arrested a one Oyet Patrick, 34, of Anaka General Hospital Quarters for alleged defilement of a 17-year-old Senior Two student of Intensive Senior Secondary School in Nwoya last week. It is alleged that the victim had escorted her boyfriend and left 2 young children unattended to which annoyed the suspect and when the victim returned, he grabbed her and sexually assaulted her. The suspect was a guardian to the victim.

π DRC suspends Rwandan Television channels
πThe media regulator in the Democratic Republic of Congo has ordered the local office of satellite television provider Canal+ to remove Rwandan channels from those it offers to the country. The suspension will run for a period of 90 days and could potentially be renewed depending on circumstances, the regulator, CSAC RDC, said in a statement.
π IMF approves $87 million budget support for Republic of Congo
πThe executive board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved $87 million budgetary support to the Republic of Congo following the conclusion of the second review of the countryβs social-economic and political reform progress under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF). The financing is part of a $455 million ECF programme which the fund approved on January 21, 2022, leading to an immediate disbursement of $90 million.

π NIGERIA: Supreme Court halts Currency Swap
πNigeriaβs Supreme Court has temporarily suspended Fridayβs deadline to stop using old banknotes, which had caused a cash crisis in the country. Many banks have not had enough of the new naira notes, leading to desperate and chaotic scenes as people tried to get their hands on them. There were fights at ATMs, protests and mob attacks on commercial banks.
