Electoral Commission Kick Starts Display of Verified Administrative Units Countrywide

With the Women Councils and Committees Elections from the village to national level slated for August 2022, Electoral commission have started the display of lists of verified administrative lists country wide.

The first exercise was to verify and confirm administrative units that is villages/ cells/ parishes and wards from March 17th-26th 2022 and the electoral commission has processed the data which was compared, verified and confirmed during the exercise.

Accordingly the spokesman of electoral commission Paul Bukenya said; “The commission will display the lists of verified administrative units from 11th -20th April 2022 for public viewing at the Division or Sub-county headquarters countrywide. Go to your division or Sub-county HQ to confirm that your village or parish details are correct.”

The Women Councils and Committees Elections are village based and progressive in nature that is from village up to national level.

The Last elections were held in 2018 and according to the National Women’s Council Act, the term of Office of the councils and committees is four (4), implying their term will elapse in August 2022.

Some of the objectives and functions of these councils and committees include; organizing the women of Uganda in a unified body and engaging the women in activities that are of benefit to them and the nation.

To establish channels through which economic and social services and amenities may reach the women in all areas of Uganda and to inspire and promote among the women a spirit of unity and national consciousness.

The move by the government to establish these councils has enabled to create an independent and United forum through which women have participated in the decision making process in the country.
