Deputy RDC Majambere Remanded to Prison

Ivan Kamuntu Semakula, the Deputy RDC of Rukiga District, accused of land grabbing, has been remanded to prison until December 3, 2024.

Semakula, also known as Majambere, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

According to the statement issued November 21 2024 by anti-corruption unit he faces charges of conspiracy to defraud, stealing cattle, and criminal trespass.

‘’The charges stem from an incident in August 2023, where Semakula and his accomplices allegedly seized 300-acre farmland in Gomba District, belonging to a 75-year-old man’’, part of the statement read.

Despite the victim possessing a valid land title, the group claimed ownership and even sold portions of the land to unsuspecting buyers.

As investigations continue, authorities are working to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the land-grabbing scheme.
