The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has escalated to unprecedented levels, as recent reports confirm that the death toll has surpassed 40,000 in US-funded Israeli attacks on Palestine since October 2023, with 40 percent of the dead being children.
Despite global calls and local demonstrations against the genocide in Gaza, the US government has continued to provide money and military hardware to Israel to murder innocent civilians.
On Sunday, August 18, 2024, dozens of Americans demonstrated against the US supplying weapons to Israel for its war on Gaza, demanding a truce and an arms embargo in Israel, ahead of US Vice President Kamala Harris’s convention scheduled to take place on Monday, August 19, in Chicago.
Nonetheless, US-funded genocide in Gaza has continued, with local media reports indicating entire Palestinian families were wiped out by the latest Israeli air strikes.
Dr. Khalil al-Degran, spokesman for Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah, said Israeli forces continue to target and pound unsuspecting residents who are staying in civilian areas, citing Sunday’s incident where a family of eight, including six children, were killed while they were sleeping in Deir el-Balah, in the center of the Strip.
“Yesterday, Israeli official forces targeted a residential building. In this building, seven members of the same family were killed. Six children, together with their mother,” he said.
He said 25 hospitals are out of operation in the besieged enclave, and very few are still functioning. With the Rafah border crossing with Egypt closed for more than 200 days, he said the hospital is experiencing a severe shortage of medical supplies.
The staff at the hospital cannot provide “the most basic medical necessities” for injured patients, “a clear signal that the entire health sector has collapsed in Gaza,” he said.
The involvement of U.S. funding in the conflict has come under intense scrutiny since U.S. financial aid directed towards Israeli military support and defense initiatives is being used to carry out genocide in Gaza.
In February 2024, the US Senate passed an emergency spending package worth 14.1 billion dollars to provide additional military aid to Israel to continue its assault on Palestinians living in Gaza.
The use of U.S. funds and military equipment to commit genocide in Gaza raises ethical questions about its foreign policy and its role in global instability.
