At least six people were confirmed dead on Monday, August 19, 2024, in a fatal motor accident that occurred along the Mbarara-Masaka Highway.
SP Kananura Michael, the traffic police spokesperson, said some 37 people who sustained severe injuries were rushed to nearby medical facilities.
He said preliminary findings indicate that the driver of UBQ 621z Isuzu bus belonging to Gateway company while at Kirumba from Mbarara side heading to Masaka attempted to overtake other vehicles by drafting into the opposite lane and got involved in a head-on collision with motor vehicle UBM 673k a fuso coming from Masaka side heading to Kyazanga side.
Kananura said police responded promptly and rushed victims to nearby clinics for medical attention. The bodies of the deceased were later conveyed to the Kyazanga Hospital Mortuary. The injured were also later evacuated from Kyazanga HC IV to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital (RRH) for further management.
