Rtd Col Dr Kizza Besigye has said is deeply concerned by the manner in which the two presidential aspirants, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)’s Patrick Oboi Amuriat and Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine of National Unity Platform (NUP) have blatantly defied the COVID19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during their mass campaign rallies hence exposing many naïve Ugandans to COVID19.
Speaking on a certain National TV on Monday morning, Dr. Besigye, a medical doctor by profession, said he was “intensely” concerned about the crowds being pulled by the two candidates.
“Right from the onset of the pandemic, I took very keen interest, I published weekly briefings about COVID-19. I have been deeply involved in the whole pandemic. So, I cannot fail to be very concerned about what is going on in the campaigns relating to the spread of COVID-19,” he worriedly said.
Dr Besigye is in consensus with Electoral Commission (EC) and all other right-thinking actors on the manner in which the two candidates have adamantly violated the COVID 19 SOPs that has seen a sharp increase in the community transmissions over the last two months of campaigns and electioneering.
Bobi Wine and Amuriat who on Monday snubbed a meeting scheduled by EC to explain their alleged failure to observe the SOPs set by the EC and Ministry of Health, instead defiantly sent their inconsequential representatives who were oblivious of the EC’s expectations to the matter at hand.
The public health guidelines allow an election rally to have a maximum of 200 people in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
This, Bobi Wine and Amuriat have defiantly disregarded hence maliciously transmitting an infectious disease to Ugandans who naïvely storm their rallies at the expense of their lives.
Bobi Wine and his counterpart’s failure to observe COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) exposes the breed of egocentric leaders Ugandans should be pessimistic of.
