SOUTH SUDAN: Over 10,000 refugees flee Sudan

More than 10,000 people havehave been registered as refugees in South Sudan after fleeing the conflict in Sudan, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has said. 130,000 people have fled into South Sudan since the fighting started in April and most of them were South Sudanese returning home.  Reports say the latest influx continues to compound a dire situation as the arrival numbers are projected to continue to increase as fighting continues.

TANZANIA: Parliament approves 44.39 Trillion Budget

Tanzanian Parliament has approved a record 44.39tri/- Budget for 2023/24 after a week of debate over proposed plans to enhance social and economic development in the country. National Assembly Speaker Dr. Tulia Ackson announced that 354 MPs or 95 percent voted in support of the proposed budget that was tabled by Finance and Planning Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba on June 15, 2023.

URA to collect Shs2 trillion in four days in a bid to hit target

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) is expected to collect Shs2 trillion in the next 6 days to hit her annual Shs25.5 trillion target in this financial year. In order to address the district's growing unpaid water bills, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) branch in Kisoro has initiated an aggressive campaign to disconnect clients with outstanding payments of more than one month. The move comes as NWSC's backlog of unpaid water bills approaches Shs500 million.
