CNN has named Bwindi impenetrable national park in western Uganda as one of the most beautiful places in the world due to its biodiversity that extends far beyond its most famous inhabitants, the mountain Gorilla, with 348 bird species and 220 butterfly species. The announcement was made as part of the news casters celebration of Earth Day.
The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a bio diverse, mountainous area in southwest Uganda. Its home to many of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, who feed on roots, leaves and fruits from the park’s many tree and fern species. Restricted numbers of viewing permits help protect the endangered gorilla families.
The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site with one of the richest ecosystems in Africa and a diversity of animal and bird species.
This comes as little surprise to many as Uganda has been consistently named by various Tourism commentators for it’s wide range of attractions including the Flora and Fauna. Uganda has been attractive for tourists especially with the security and peace prevailing in all it’s regions.
This revelation came on the same day as the Uganda Wildlife Authority handed over a cheque of 4Billion Shillings to residents living around the Bwindi and Mgahinga National parks as part of it’s revenue sharing model to benefit from the parks.
Speaking at the function, Minister Professor Ephraim Kamuntu commended the communities for preserving the parks and also gave assurances to visitors that Uganda is safe for tourists and warned anyone that tries to destabilize the peace of tourists who come to Uganda, shall be dealt with according to the law. He also reminded the communities to guard the parks jealously and protect them against wrong elements.
This comes as a welcome boost to the Tourism industry after an incident of kidnap last month had threatened to soil the country’s clean security slate.
