A section of Makerere University students who received Posho and Rice on Friday, November 1, 2024, from Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, have returned it, claiming it was expired and rotten.

As early as check, 7:20 am, Monday, November 4th, 2024, one by one, the students started storming the headquarters of the National Unity Platform Party (NUP) at Kavule to return the donations.

Mukasa Peter, a second-year government student at Makerere University, said that both the posho and the rice had expired.

“Yes, we understand we are desperate and in need of help, but at least they shouldn’t have given us expired food stuff,” Mukasa said.

Manjeri Esther, a first-year student resident in Kikoni, said, together with her other colleagues, they were shocked upon opening the bags only to find that they were infested with weevils.

According to her, the food items had even started smelling; it looked like they had been in the stores for a long time.

The NUP head of security, Achileo Kivumbi, said that it was unfortunate that some of the food items were expired and apologized to the students at the NUP gate.

“I have seen some of the returned bags of posho, and we have opened some for rice, and they are indeed expired. We received similar complaints from other students over the weekend, and I thought it was a few isolated cases, but from what the students have returned here today, it looks like the whole batch of the food we gave the students was expired, and we are sorry, Kivumbi noted.
