The arrest of Bigirwa Moses and a false narrative that had already been spread by Bob wine on social media has exposed the usual smear campaigns by NUP.
Organized Members from NUP have been taking advantage of mob justice scenarios. The strategy has been to pick thieves beaten by mobs and people involved in accidents to frame security forces with intent to win public sympathy.
Following the arrest of Birigirwa on charges related to defaming the Deputy Speaker Anita Among, Robert Kyagulanyi took to his social media pages and said that their colleague was violently arrested from along the Northern Bypass together with the wife and child.
“I have learnt of the violent arrest of comrade Birigwa Moses our mobilizer for eastern Uganda. The information indicates that birigwa and his family were grabbed from their vehicle at northern bypass in Bwaise, the trio was then forced into the double cabin that sped off to Kibuli,” his post read in parts.
However, it turned out that the NUP leader was playing the smear campaign politics as evidence of descent arrest of Bigirwa went viral on social media.
Whereas Bobiwine and his entire camp took on social media to mislead people claiming that Bigirwa and family were brutally arrested from Bwaise, it turned to be false. Moses Birigwa was arrested from Nakasero at the Residence of the Deputy Speaker where he was going to collect a bribe of UgShs100M.
Video and audio clips of the arrest and extortion respectively were published by the Joseph Sabiti, Head of Communications for the office of the deputy speaker.
This stirred up a heated debate on media platforms on the authenticity of Bobi Wine and NUP camp who always post framed up cases to tarnish government and security’s image.
Realizing how this could cost the camp, Bobi wine immediately took to his social media handles and apologized to the public. “My post last night about the arrest of Bigirwa Moses was based on the narration of events as told to us by his wife who claimed to have been with him and witnessed everything as it happened,’’ he posted.
However, a section of personalities in the media have said that this exposes the smear campaign that Bobi Wine and colleagues use against the government. Some wondered how a person contesting for presidency rushes to make claims according to uninvestigated narrations.
The smear Campaign has been a strategy of the NUP for quite a long time with some of the early cases being that of the late Zig Wine who died in an accident but opposition ran a propaganda that he was tortured and dumped in Mulago. This strategy has been working for NUP as they take advantage of accident victims and mob justice cases who they use to claim torture by government. The public has started learning their games as seen on social media reactions to the case of Bigirwa.
