The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) has called upon the office of the Auditor General to do a forensic and value for money Audit on parliament expenditures.

While addressing the press at their offices in Bukoto Nakawa Division in Kampala on, March 13, 2024, the former leader of the Opposition and former Kasese Woman Member of Parliament Winnie Kiiza condemned the exposed parliamentary dealings and said called for the relevant offices to do an Audit into parliament expenditures.

“As the exhibition continues let all of us join it and hold all those holding public offices accountable. If there is the will we can get independent auditors to do the forensic audit,” Kiiza said.

The former leader of the opposition also called for constitutional review so that the powers of the speaker of parliament are trimmed.

“The 1995 constitution gave too much power to parliament like determining their salaries and allocation of monies, so we need to have a constitutional review to answer the challenges that we have now like an independent speaker who doesn’t belong to any political party. We also need to have a salary commission that controls rewards and salaries from parliament and there is an urgent need to advocate for a minimum wage and a proper salary system,” Kiiza added.

The press release was called to address the ongoing Uganda Parliament exhibition on X (Formerly Twitter) where Ugandans are exposing the rot in government entities and the recent one on parliament exposed how some parliamentarians shared over 500M UGX each and the extravagance of the current speaker Anita Among with evidence showing how the office of the speaker has been involved in sharing huge sums of money without proper accountabilities.
