The President also confirmed that after the mourning period, he is set to visit the scene of this tragic accident and also call a government council to discuss how to take firm measures on road safety.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic road accident today in Gniby that caused 40 deaths and many serious injuries. “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” said President Macky Sall.

The two buses collided in Gniby, Kaffrine region, in Senegal, on Sunday, December 8, 2023, killing at least 40 people and leaving 87 others critically injured.
