BOLD: IGG Tightens Grip On Corruption, Tells Ugandans To Stay Alert

The Inspectorate of Government, Betty Olive Kamya, has urged Ugandans not to give up the fight against corruption, saying it is the reason why government programs have continued to be impeded.

She made the call on Monday morning in a statement posted on her official Twitter account, alerting Ugandans to report any acts of corruption within the society to the nearby police or any anti-corruption agency.

“It is now common knowledge and the talk of the town that corruption is the key driver of Uganda’s social and economic woes; corruption is the main reason government programs to deliver services to Ugandans are frustrated. The main reason medicine does not reach hospitals,” IGG Kamya explained,

According to her, although funds are allocated by the Executive and appropriated by Parliament, corruption has remained the main reason many roads are in bad shape, why the government is unable to raise the salaries of public servants, why jobs are given to people who don’t qualify, and why road carnage results in unnecessary deaths.

She explained that corruption is a catalyst for the increasing land grabbing, a reason for the exodus of Ugandan girls who go to seek menial jobs abroad where they suffer untold abuse, and a catalyst for the human trafficking of Ugandans.

IGG further noted that there is corruption in government, in civil society, including both religious and cultural institutions, and in the private sector.
