President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commissioned a tile factory valued at Ugx180b in Njeru municipality, Buikwe district.

The factory is listed as the biggest in Africa, currently producing 49,000 square meters of tiles per day with a planned production to triple to 150,000 square meters per day once it’s fully operational.

The ground breaking of the factory was done in November 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During commissioning, the President encouraged other investors to consider investing in Uganda due to the prevailing peace, security, and government commitment.

“All the raw materials to be used in the factory will be sourced locally from the districts of Mukono and Buikwe, making it a vertically integrated factory,” the President noted.

Morrison Rwakamba, the Uganda Investment Board Chairman, likened the success of such factories to the availability of enough electricity in the country.

“The factory employs 1600 Ugandans directly and another 3,000 indirectly when at full operational capacity,” said Rwakamba.
