The National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) is in the final stages of construction works on the road that leads to the Children’s Surgical Hospital in Entebbe.

In 2021, government contracted NEC construct the road after the opening of Entebbe Children’s Surgical Hospital as the Lunyo – Nakiwogo road was in a sorry state under the Entebbe Municipal Council Management.

The Children’s Surgical Hospital that was constructed by EMERGENCY and commissioned by President Museveni in April 2021 offers free pediatric surgical care to kids below the age of 15.

According to Ssalongo Ssekandi, the LC1 chairman of Lunyo-Central, the road works were done in four layers to prevent cracks from developing.

“The road works were done in four layers with each layer compacted and left for heavy rains to fall and check if the drainage systems will flood, or the roads will get cracks before the final layer of tarmac was applied,” Ssekandi said.

Ssekandi continued to praise the timeliness and good quality work done by NEC.

“It has taken NEC a period of close to one year to carefully construct this road. It has done very good works on this road, the road is really world class and the residents have been wondering why all roads around Entebbe Municipality are not constructed by NEC,” he said.

Ssekandi continued to state that the road was needed and thanked government for contracting NEC which he and the residents believe have a done a good job.

National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) is a state-owned corporation and is the commercial arm of the Uganda People’s Defence Force.

The road is at 90% completion and is expected to help ease movement of children in need of surgery and the residents of Lunyo Central.
