The Parliament of Uganda today hosted the first District chairpersons Debate under the theme: “Enhancing service delivery in local governments; the nexus between Parliament and district leaders”.

Speaking after the debate, deputy speaker of Parliament, Honorable Jacob Oulanya said that he was glad that the Chairpersons were able to clearly express & front their challenges.

He went on to say that, “From the discussions, it stood out that there is a disconnect between Parliament and District leaders yet we must work together in order to have quality service delivery to the people. This is only possible if we work as partners rather than competitors.”

Rt. Hon. @JacobOulanyah in his final remarks said that it is the responsibility of Local Government leaders to ensure that the Budget process starts at the local level because it is provided in the law.

The Deputy Speaker @JacobOulany thanked the District leaders and participants in the Parliament/ District Chairperson’s debate for the submissions. He pledged that Parliament will consider the matters raised.
