A total of 81 people are set to receive various awards during this year’s national Heroes day celebration.
The event is due to be held at Kololo Independence ground on Thursday 9th June 2022 and His Excellency the President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to preside over as the chief guest.
Under the theme, “Commemorating our Heroes and heroines; an opportunity to consolidate our efforts in Securing Uganda”, the event shall be sued to pay tribute to people who defend the highest values of patriotism and sacrifice for the wellbeing of Ugandans and citizens.
Peter Ogwang, the Minister of State for Economic Monitoring in the office of the President said Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson is among those to be awarded.
Thirty four (34) Medalists will receive the 50th anniversary Golden Jubilee Medal award in recognition for their outstanding service and loyalty to the country.
Some 18 people shall be awarded the Nalubaale Awards for their contribution to the political development of Uganda, and seventeen (17) shall receive Luwero triangle Medalists, usually awarded to any officer, man or woman who joined the armed struggle against dictatorship in Uganda.
A total of five (5) people are expected to receive Damu Award which is given to members of the military who were wounded in action or for having died in action during the liberation struggle.
Additional four distinguish police officers shall be awarded the long service Gold police Award for serving for over 30 years uninterruptedly to the force.
Two other officers shall be awarded the long service silver police Award which is usually awarded to police officers who have served for over 20 with clean and uninterrupted services to the force.
Two civilians shall be awarded honorary Medals for showing unwavering support to police programmes and thus making police operations easier and improved as well as the officers’ welfare.
The award is conducted as stipulated in the National honors’ and Awards Act, 2001.
