Sources have revealed that Kyagulanyi’s visit to Omoro in on Saturday 9th April 2022 was never about condolences to Oulanyah’s family but a strategic show up for the upcoming by-elections to replace the fallen speaker.

Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi left for Omoro and Gulu City on the grounds of meeting the Acholi cultural leaders and the father of the late Hon. Jacob Oulanyah to show face and grieve with them.

However, analysts have revealed that Kyagulanyi’s intentions for going to Gulu were to apologize to the Acholi Chief and Oulanyah’s father with intentions to get leeway for launching campaigns for his NUP candidate in the upcoming by-elections in Omoro County.

Kyagulanyi’s emergency visit to Gulu and Omoro came after his failure to attend Oulanyah’s burial which took place on Friday, 8th April 2022.

His failure to attend the burial escalated mixed reactions from the Acholi NUP leaders and the people of Northern Uganda.

According to sources in the NUP circles, this threatened their possibility of competing in the by-elections that will be held to replace the late Oulanyah.

Kyagulanyi was forced to leave Geneva and head to Gulu to meet the Acholi Chief and apologize for the protests that took place in Seattle, Washington US on 7th February 2022 at 3:00 PST where Oulanyah had been flown for treatment, but also relay his campaign strategy.

Meeting with the Acholi Chief was unsuccessful, so he instead met his fellow NUP leaders and local leaders in the north to plan for the by-election.

In the previous Presidential elections Kyagulanyi lost with 15.24% to H.E Yoweri Museveni who scored 50.39% in the entire Gulu region.

Campaigns will be held for a week before conducting elections on May 26th in Omoro. The Parliamentary Election Act, 2005 requires a by-election to be held within 60 days after the vacancy has occurred.
