PRESIDENT MUSEVENI: ALL FLAGS FLYING AT HALF-MAST UNTIL RT HON. OULANYAH IS LAID TO REST

President Yoweri Museveni has joined thousands of senior leaders to mourn the fallen Speaker of the 11th Parliament, Rt Hon. Jacob Oulanyah.

The deceased passed on from a hospital in Seattle, Washington in the US on Sunday, 20th March 2022. Oulanyah was flown to US on 4th Feb when his ailment escalated.

In his communication, President Museveni described OUlanyah’s death as saddening and untimely.

“I extend my condolences, the condolences of my family and of all Ugandans to the children of Oulanyah and to his wider family.  The government and the NRM will always stand with them.  I will say more about Rt. Hon. Oulanyah in the coming days,” President said in a message posted on his official Twitter handle on Monday.

President confirmed that a national team tasked to manage the funeral preparation of the deceased has been activated.

“I have activated the National Organizing Committee, under the Hon. Babalanda, to organize the official burial of the Late Speaker. They know what to do,” President noted.

Hefurtherfuther directed that all flags in Uganda must fly half-mast until the burial of Hon Oualnayah.

“I direct that the flags in Uganda fly at half- masts until the burial of the Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah. This is provided for in the official burials procedures, “President directed.

Earlier on Monday, the Minister of Information, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi said the cabinet was due to pronounce itself on the further guidance on as and when the body of late speaker Oulanyah shall arrive in the country and subsequently laid to rest in Omoro district.
