The African Film Festival has today kicked off in Kabale district, western Uganda and will focus on films made by Ugandans and other East Africans, while also showing other pan-African and African Diaspora movies.
The African Film Festival is a celebration of what is possible when the best of two worlds meet.
The festival is a result of the collective vision of United in Film, a Canadian-based film not-for-profit, and Reel Impact Foundation, a Ugandan film charity based in Kabale, two organizations that are working together to support filmmaking in Kabale through the provision of a free, 18 month training program, modern filmmaking equipment, scholarships to attend international film festivals and conferences, and a fund of money available for use towards the creation of their movies.
Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda is the guest of honour at the event and had this to say, “Pleased to have my brother Prof Peter Anyang’ Nyongo’, Kisumu County Governor in Kenya and father to Lupita Nyongo join us at the launch of the African Film Festival in Kabale.
We invite film makers from all over the world to take advantage of our natural beauty& make Uganda the base for their shooting&production.”
