Security have heavily deployed in Kayunga District ahead of the LC V by-election slated for Thursday 16th December.

Uganda Peoples Defense Force-UPDF and Uganda Police Force are currently deployed in areas of Kayunga, Kangurumira, Kitimbwa, and Busaana Town Council where the opposition National Unity Platform is expected to cause anarchy.

Security has also reinforced the checkpoint at the River Ssezibwa Bridge with water cannons and teargas trucks. They have also created more checkpoints on major routes leading into the district.

Mr. Kigozi Ssempala the Resident District Commissioner Kayunga told the media that the deployment is intended to maintain stability in the by-election and secure the President’s visit to the district today.

The security had also learned of a plot by the National Unity Platform-NUP camp to cause chaos by Bobi Wine’s supporters.

The NUP camp plans to transport people from outside the district mostly from the Kamwokya -Kampala suburbs who are already destabilizing the process in the disguise of protecting votes and increasing numbers of people on the final rally of their candidate.

Last week, Justice Simon Byabakama, the Electoral Commission chairperson said they would restrict the number of people at polling stations and the tally center.

“Any individual found to be doing the duties of an observer or agent without due accreditation will be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” Said Mr. Justice Byabakama.

President Museveni who is also the Chairman of the Ruling NRM is today in the district to converse support for the party flag bearer Andrew Muwonge.
