The ongoing by-election campaigns in Kayunga district have exposed the National Unity Party-NUP as the political borne out of violence, civil disorder and blackmail.

According to observers, NUP’s political bedrock is purely mounted on violence, lawlessness and extremism to cause disorder by deliberately undermining security guidelines.

Observers believe that NUP usually use this tactic selectively especially where they don’t hold a strong political base in a bid to win political sympathy from voters.

“Imagine security guided the NUP flag bearer in the Kayunga LCV by election on procedures to holding legal procession but instead she did the opposite, security had no option than to use legal means to put down the apparent lawlessness by the group and its supporters”

Police on Tuesday fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of rowdy NUP supporters who were holding an illegal procession in Kayunga Town to canvass support for the party candidate.

Harriet Nakwede, the NUP flag bearer was advised by the EC not to host her party president Robert Kyagulanyi, in the same area President Museveni was to address NRM supporters but she insisted hence causing an illegal procession in protests.

This is not the first time NUP is seen confronting security personnel for stopping their illegal activities.

Three weeks ago, NUP President Kyagulanyi confronted security in Mbale and Lira cities when he insisted on conducting illegal processions in city streets.
