Democratic Party President Nobert Mao has dismissed concerns that the Inter Party Organization on Dialogue needs the involvement of the National Unity Platform to succeed and achieve it’s goals.

Nobert Mao also dismissed threats from the NUP that they would withdraw from the IPOD if there requests are not met saying that the party has never been a member of the organization and this cannot withdraw from what it has been involved in.

The purpose of the IPOD is to offer an equal avenue for political parties in the country to hold open dialogue on the political dispensation of the country. IPOD is a facilitator for genuine political dialogue in the country.

Mao was however adamant that he and other members of IPOD would continue to welcome new parties in the organization since it is a worthwhile venture.

This despite NUP party Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya describing the organization as a joke.

The NUP has seemingly given up on using dialogue to drive the political agenda. They alleged that the struggle needs force and not peace to succeed.

In further defense of IPOD, Mao said, “IPOD is not a substitute for other organs that are supposed to solve Uganda’s problems. IPOD is a catalyst. It is true that political parties are supposed to be equal, but we know even in Parliament, we are not equal.”

Two members of Parliament belonging to the NUP party have only been recently arrested in connection to the murders in Masaka which have been attributed to politicians and political activities.
