The Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Mutebi and his wife Nnabagereka Sylvia Nagginda have joined a growing list of high-profile personalities to get the Covid-19 jab.

The two received their initial jobs of Astra Zeneca vaccine at the kingdom palace in Lubiri , Mengo on Friday morning.

This comes shortly after the Kabaka’s birthday message on his 66th birthday celebrations telling Ugandans to disregard false information circulating social media platforms that the Astra Zeneca vaccine has negative side effects.

While delivering the Kabaka’s message, the Buganda Kingdom prime minister, Charles Peter Mayiga, advised the public to dismiss such propaganda as myths and not truth.

He encouraged Politicians, local leaders and Ugandans at large to show in large numbers and get vaccinated.
“I have seen several media platforms misinforming the public that the Covid-19 vaccine is dangerous to our health and Ugandans have bought into the negative mindset and rejected the exercise. The information is misleading, Political leaders should lead by example and be at the forefront of sensitizing the public about the need to embrace the vaccination exercise,” he said.

The Covid 19 vaccination kicked off on March 10, after the country received 964,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through COVAX and donation.

However according to the Ministry of health the exercise has been received with negativity from the public ,judging by the low turn up of Ugandans for vaccination.
So far close to 190.000 people had been vaccinated.
Last week in parliament state Minister for primary health care Joyce Moriku Kaducu said the government needed to vaccinate close to 60 percent of the population for stronger immunity among the masses.
