What Struggle Does People Power Really Stand For?

Local musician, Dr Hilderman has come out to hit out at recent people power defections by claiming that all of them lacked belief in what he called ‘The Struggle’. The apparent struggle is the crux of their movement or political party that has forwarded Bobi Wine as challenger to incumbent President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

We expected that some of our members would abandon our ‘struggle’ along the way even though during the briefing everyone was asked if they were ready to make a sacrifice. We did so because we knew some members who would not pass the test and challenges along the way.

Our group has no money but we agreed to work along those lines. The government we are fighting against sacrificed a lot to achieve the power that they have. For us we are Keyboard warriors fighting our struggle online. However, the people we are fighting struggled for over five years. NRA members like Kategaya, Mushega and the rest were not given a single coin to join the liberation struggle.

More died in that struggle due to the one love that they had for the country and therefore our members should look to emulate that level of patriotism. Our former members like Mayinja, Full Figure, Ashburg and others are like when your wife abandons you. It is very painful and of course damages the struggle, we feel bad and betrayed.

We have tried to show our followers the ‘promised land’ even though we still have a long way to go. Many of the leaders in People power are well to do members of the society and own large mansions in Kampala and successful business. They receive funds to support their programs from overseas sponsors in Canada and far wide. Meanwhile the foot soldiers toil away with the promise of a greater future while those that can wait any longer have jumped ship.

The question hence remains unanswered, what does the struggle stand for?
