People Power spokesman, Joel Senyonyi has said that the they will not waiver in their efforts to carry out Processions during their countryside consultations.
Senyonyi made these remarks while speaking on NBS TV in the wake of violent processions that have so far led to the death of two young people power stooges.
It also comes after Police had advised the pressure group to carry out consultative meetings with security to avoid more violent and uncontrollable conduct.
The people Power group has already declared that they are unwilling to listen to the demands of the Police since they have received clearance from the electoral commission to carry out their consultative meetings.
Processions are currently illegal since police is unable to guarantee the security of participants. The roads on which these acts are carried out are public goods and don’t belong to individuals or parties. Other groups and individuals like Kiza Besigye of FDC have declared before that processions are some of the means through which they can unseat the government unconstitutionally. Why then should the authorities look on while thugs take over the streets and legitimate businesses make loses.
This latest development is set to further fan the fire that the pressure group is building ahead of the crucial 2021 general elections.
