Semujju Nganda: A Corrupt, Hypocritical Populist Stealing Taxpayers’ Money

The Kira municipality Member of Parliament (MP), Ibrahim Semujju Nganda, has mastered the art of hypocrisy and deception using his oratory skills and eloquence.

Semujju disguises himself as a pro-change activist but does a lot of dirty work behind the curtains. Many Ugandans have failed to understand why he is the only MP who relentlessly attacks the first family in his plenary speeches, but the speaker has never denied him a microphone.

Semujju is a wolf in a goat’s skin, as the Parliament exhibition exposed him to be the MP that has traveled the most, earning hefty allowances. It was discovered that he was actually paid for the trips he did not make, and he never returned the money.

He disguises himself as a freedom fighter, yet in the actual sense he is part of the corrupt opposition MPs who connive with the leaders of parliament to steal taxpayers’ money. During the signing of the censure motion to impeach the corrupt parliamentary commissioners in August 2024, Semujju declined to append his signature based on the fact that Mathias Mpuuga was his longtime friend, something that left Ugandans wondering if Semujju acted based on values and principle or just individualism and emotional attachment.

Semujju has on many occasions used his oratory skills and eloquence to play on the minds of the opposition and his voters; he spends all his time in parliament abusing President Museveni and his family, and he hardly leaves parliament without mentioning their names. The MP doesn’t even remember to mention the challenges faced by the Kira municipality people.

As a merchant of chaos who has caused sharp divisions in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party alongside Kizza Besigye, Semujju has been riding on his journalistic skills to portray himself as a performer in parliament. However, he has recently been exposed as one of the worst legislators, hiding behind eloquence to do all sorts of political evils.

Semujju’s hypocrisy that has made him play to the gallery for long is likely to be short-lived come the 2026 elections. Signs already show that Ugandans and other politicians have since understood his tricks, and he will get serious opponents as well as votes of no confidence from the voters who are already disappointed.
