The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has announced the primary election roadmap ahead of the by-election to replace the late Kisora District Woman MP Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi.

Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Chairperson on Monday, September 23, 2024, said the roadmap will also include the election of lower council members whose positions had been vacant.

“The expression of interest will involve the following positions: District Woman MP, local government councils, and special interest group council. We are replacing those who died,” Tanga said.

Dr. Tanga said the deadline for submitting expression of interest forms is September 30, 2024.

The Kisoro District Woman MP seat fell vacant after the death of Minister of State for Defence, Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, on September 7, 2024.

The Electoral Commission is expected to issue an official communication anytime soon regarding dates for conducting the by-election.
