Museveni Congratulates Newly Elected President of Sri Lanka

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has congratulated Anura Kumara Dissanayake upon his election as the President of Sri Lanka.

In his congratulatory message released on Tuesday, September 24th, 2024, President Museveni commended Dissanayake’s leadership and recognized the trust placed in him by the people of Sri Lanka.

Anura Kumara Dissanayake, 55, with his party, National People’s Power (NPP), won the presidency in a second round of counting after winning by 42.3 percent support in the first round.

Museveni highlighted the longstanding and harmonious relations between Uganda and Sri Lanka that were built on mutual respect and cooperation as they continue to yield social, economic, and political development.

He reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties and exploring new opportunities for collaboration, particularly in trade, investment, and sustainable development.

’’I wish H.E., the newly elected president of Sri Lanka, Dissanayake success in his new role, and I extend my best wishes for continued peace and prosperity for the people of Sri Lanka,’’ said Museveni.

Dissanayake was sworn in on Monday, September 23, 2024, after winning Saturday’s poll.
