A 28-year-old man accused of being a suspected thief in Bukomansimbi district has been lynched and the body burned by the angry residents.

The deceased who was caught breaking into the house of one of the residents was identified as Shakur Kakooza.

The incident took place on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, in Kabulunga village.

Residents also recovered several breaking implements, including an iron bar and other tools used in burglaries.

Before he was lynched, Kakooza reportedly revealed his colleagues and led residents to his residential house, where several suspected stolen items had been kept.

“There were a few flat-screen television sets, two computers, hammers, axes, and women’s handbags inside his rental house, and this is what fuelled the locals’ anger more, and they decided to burn him,’’ stated the eyewitnesses.

During an interview, one of the locals identified as Sempijja revealed that burglary cases are common in their area.

Sempijja also said that Kakooza revealed that all the things they steal are taken to a certain rich man in Nyendo, Masaka district, and they are always paid after delivery. The businessman is a dealer in electronics, including TV screens, woofers, and laptops, among others.

The rise of mob justice in Bukomansimbi district is a troubling reflection of the community’s frustrations with law enforcement and the judicial system.

On August 27, 2024, two brothers, James Ssekiwala Ddungu (25) and Emmanuel Kabode (50), were brutally killed by an angry mob in Budda village, Kibinge Sub County, for allegedly murdering their 70-year-old mother.
