Hundreds of guests, both local and international, are flocking into Karamoja’s district of Karenga in north-eastern Uganda to experience the ninth edition of the Karamoja cultural festival, which runs from September 2 to 7, 2024.

The event, which is taking place at the Napeikori grounds, aims to showcase Karimojong culture along with other Ateker cluster tribes from Kenya, South Sudan, and Ethiopia, as well as provide visitors with an experience of one of Uganda’s most acclaimed national parks, the Kidepo Valley National Park.

The event started with the arrival of guests on Monday, September 2, who had to navigate muddy stretches along Kitgum-Karenga road.

Despite a few travel difficulties that have to be overcome, attendees are met with a warm welcome, and the significant presence of security personnel gives the visitors a feel of safety as they look forward to enjoying an unforgettable cultural experience.

Based on the schedule given to guests by the organizers, the festival promises a full circuit of events, including traditional dance performances, craft exhibitions, and culinary experiences that reflect the rich flavors of Karamoja, plus an exhibition of dialogs as a way of solving community challenges.

Visitors will also have the chance to explore one of Uganda’s most renowned natural treasures, Kidepo Valley National Park, known for its stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife.

President Museveni is expected to close the festival on September 7th, 2024.
