Justice Jamson Karemani, the resident judge of the Kiboga High Court circuit, has said that they are concerned about the increasing trend of teachers and parents involved in defilement cases.

According to the case list issued by the court’s deputy registrar, Angela Mutatiina Natukunda, there are 36 cases, and out of those, 28 are aggravated defilement offences.

“The growing trend of parents and teachers involved in defilement cases is worrying,” Karemani said.

Justice Karemani made these remarks during an opening high court criminal session where 36 cases are set to be handled.

He attributed the increase in difilement cases to a lack of sensitization and urged leaders to engage the masses to avoid criminality.

“I call upon leaders to mobilise the masses into money-making activities so that they do not get involved in criminal activities,” Karemani said.

He further appealed to the stakeholders to carry out sensitization programmes, adding that many offenders didn’t consider sex with a 16- or 17-year-old girl a crime.

Prior to the session, Justice Karemani held a pre-session meeting with Justice actors on January 11 to agree on how the second part of the session that began in December would be conducted in the disposal of the 36 cases.
