Four police officers have been dismissed and arraigned before a police disciplinary court on charges of bad conduct and tarnishing the force’s name.

While speaking at the headquarters in Naguru on January 22, 2024, SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, said that four officers, including Phiona Among, Isaac Angula, Shafik Baluku, and Bernard Galenda, all attached to the Kabalagala police station, were arrested after they robbed Muhammad Olad Abdirahman, a 37-year-old Kenyan businessman, of $30,000 (approximately Ugx114 million).

According to Enanga, the information gathered indicated that on January 17, 2024, Muhammed went to the Royal View Hotel Buziga for accommodation. The victim, along with two others, was trying to get the best exchange rate for the $30,000 that was in their possession. The money was to be used for buying a lorry.

“The hotel management tipped Among, who alerted her three other colleagues. They reached the hotel and, in conspiracy with Okello, who was pretending to be a foreign exchange broker and the manager of the hotel, caused the arrest of the victims,” Enanga said.

He said that at around 4 p.m., they bundled the victims onto a motorcycle and drove them through Kabalagala barracks road up to another hotel garden, where they allegedly robbed the $30,000 and set them free.

“The victims later narrated their ordeals to a Kenyan friend, who helped them report their case,” Enanga stated.

He further added that the four officers were arrested, and a quick search of their homes led to the recovery of some dollars.

According to Enanga, the four officers have been arraigned before the police disciplinary court, after which they will be dismissed from the force and later charged with aggravated robbery in court.

He added that efforts are now in place to track down Okello and the manager and have them arrested, as they are currently on the run.
