NJERU: 14 Arrested in Operations to Disrupt, Dismantle Criminal Gangs

Police in Njeru have arrested 14 suspects actively involved in assaults, knife-point attacks, robberies, and smash-and-grab attacks in the Sezibwa and Njeru regions.

Police Spokesperson, SCP Enanga Fred, said in a statement made on January 16, 2024, that the suspects were arrested in the ongoing operations that commenced on January 8, 2024, to disrupt and dismantle criminal gangs in Njeru Municipality and restore peace and safety.

According to Enanga, the raids were carried out in their various hideouts behind Hared Petrol Station, Wampala Zone, Njeru West Ward, Njeru Central and Municipality, and Nile Lower Nara Zone, among others.

“The suspects were found in possession of knives, breaking implements (crow bars, screw drivers, among others), and marijuana,” Enanga said.

He identified the suspects as Francis Baluka, Asraf Senyongo, James Odeya, Sam Runamanyire, Hassan Muhaya, James Gumisiriza, Yusuf Ziwa, Victor Omaset, Ogenrwoth Fortunate, Yasin Matovu, Michael Lugya, Muhammed Lule, Peter Okumu, Franco Onen, and Ronnie Anguyo.

The gang comprises notorious young boys and adults between the ages of 12 and 25, who split it into smaller groups of 5 to 6 individuals and carry out random attacks from blackspots, including revellers from Forever Resort.
