The Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Gen. David Muhoozi, has officially opened the 2nd Symposium on Economic Crime, aimed at training in capacity building to tackle issues in smuggling, money laundering, and tax invasion, among others.

Gen. Muhoozi, while officiating at the opening on November 9, 2023, at the Serena Hotel in Kampala, said economic crime is a big concern to the state.

“Mechanisms that are in place to tackle the issue of economic crime are applaudable, especially to handle cases of money laundering, smuggling, and tax invasion, among others,” said Muhoozi.

He noted that training is critical to building the capacity of teams that can handle this issue.

Ambassador Joseph Ochwet, the Director General of the External Security Organisation (ESO), said that Economic Crime is usually led by the enemies of the country.

“The only way to counter such is by ensuring that our intelligence agencies work together to fight Economic crimes,” Ochwet said.

The symposium has brought together over 18 security Ministries Department and Agencies ( MDAs) under the theme ” A collaborative approach to fighting Economic Crime to improve the current economic situation.”
