On the fifth day since the sinking of the party boat that left scores dead and countless missing, rescue and recovery efforts continue spear headed by the UPDF and Uganda Police Force who have deployed the MV Kalangala equipped with a strong crane to attempt to retrieve the sunken ship.

Speaking to the Press on Wednesday morning, UPDF Commander of the Marines force, Michael Nyarwa, explained the process that needed to be undertaken to retrieve the boat from the bottom of the lake and by noon, the canopy of the ill-fated vessels had surfaced on the lake.

It is hoped that retrieving the boat will help to aid investigations and also help retrieve bodies and property that may be trapped under the wreckage and passed on to the bereaved relatives of the departed.

The police had earlier informed the press that there is no chance of retrieving survivors.
