UPDF in Karamoja Receives 60 New Housing Units, Bids Farewell to “Mama Ingiya Pole”

The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) 403 Brigade bid farewell to “Mama Ingiya Pole” and celebrated the commissioning of 60 new housing units in Napak District. The recently constructed housing units at the 403 Infantry Brigade Headquarters in Matany Sub-county were unveiled by Maj Gen Francis Takirwa, the Deputy Commander Land Force.

These housing units are part of the UPDF’s plan to provide over thirty thousand accommodations in order to improve the welfare and living conditions of its personnel. The construction began on May 25, 2022, and marks a significant step towards modernizing military living standards.

During the commissioning ceremony, Maj Gen Takirwa emphasized the importance of maintaining and preserving the houses, while also urging soldiers to prioritize personal hygiene.

“We are now shifting from traditional ways of living to modern ones, I urge soldiers to maintain and preserve the houses and be mindful of their hygiene,” Gen Takirwa said

Brig Gen Busizoori, the Deputy Commander of 3rd Division, acknowledged the remarkable efforts of the Engineers Construction Regiment in improving the welfare of soldiers. He emphasized that the UPDF is committed to enhancing the livelihood of its troops and encouraged the maintenance of professional standards.

Several dignitaries attended the event, including Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Francis Chemusto, Col Richard Butungi, Lt Col Morris Twongyeirwe, and Major Kizito Mulwana, among others.

The commissioning of the new housing units not only signifies the UPDF’s commitment to providing better accommodations for its personnel but also showcases its dedication to improving the welfare and living conditions of soldiers in Karamoja.
