President Yoweri Museveni warned of potential retaliatory actions by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels after military airstrikes targeted their camps in eastern Congo.
In a statement released on Sunday, Museveni said that military fighter bombers had conducted the second bombing on ADF rebel hideouts at four different locations along the western border of the Bundibugyo-Semiliki side, killing several ADF militants. The previous airstrike was carried out earlier this month, Xinhua News Agency reported.
“As a result of these strikes, ADF terrorists were fleeing Congo, where they had sought refuge, and re-entering Uganda, attempting to carry out random terrorist acts”. Museveni added
The president advised the general population to exercise caution and alert local law enforcement to any suspicious people they see. He highlighted that even relatives who had been away for a while and then returned unexpectedly should be reported since they could be affiliated with the terrorists.
Since November 2022, Ugandan and Congolese troops have been collaborating to combat the ADF rebel group. This collaboration has resulted in the capturing of a number of ADF fighters, the destruction of their camps, and the disruption of their supply lines. This joint effort is seen as a crucial step in the fight against the rebels.
