As part of the One-Plants-One-Tree campaign, which is based on environmental conservation plus restoration actions to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, Total Energies Uganda and the National Forestry Authority (NFA) launched a partnership on Friday, September 16, 2023, to restore degraded areas of the Mabira Central Forest Reserve.

The partnership was launched at the forest in Buikwe district, with a delegation of TotalEnergies staff participating in the inaugural restoration.

According to Charity Ekudu, the human resources and corporate affairs manager of TotalEnergies Uganda, climate change is real, and everyone can help by planting at least one tree.

“Climate change is real, and we each have a role to play by at least planting one tree at a time,” Ekudu said.

During the launch, they planted 1500 indigenous tree seedlings on 7 acres out of the 89 acres that TotalEnergies committed to restoring in the forest.

This partnership will help to ensure that the forest is protected and sustainably managed for future generations.

Mabira Central Forest Reserve is one of the most important forest reserves in Uganda, and it is home to a variety of unique flora and fauna, including chimpanzees, elephants, and leopards. It is also a vital source of water for local communities.

On June 16, 2023, TotalEnergies Uganda and the National Forestry Authority (NFA) began a collaboration to protect Budongo, the largest central forest reserve in Uganda. The commitment marked the start of a partnership to enhance the understanding of Budongo Central Forest, raise awareness of its immense biodiversity value, and support NFA in its strategic objectives to improve the management of central forest reserves.
