Ssimbwa Moses, a former foot soldier of Robert Kyagulanyi (also known as Bobiwine), has joined the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) headed by Joseph Kabuleta.

Ssimbwa, who is still recovering from road accident injuries, was unveiled by NEED Spokesperson Moses Matovu on Monday, 4th September 2023.

He has accused Bobi Wine and the National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership of neglecting him and not responding to his repeated calls, even though he was picked up from the hospital and paraded in Nairobi as a torture victim after being promised to have his hospital bills taken care of and to receive some money for sustainability – none of which happened.

“While I was riding a motorcycle in 2021, collided with a Subaru vehicle that was overtaking a sugarcane truck at Bukeeka along the Kangulumira-Njeru road and sustained severe injuries to my limbs, I was hospitalized and that is where I was picked and taken to Nairobi as a torture victim,” Ssimbwa stated.

At the Uganda Human Rights Accountability Conference in Ufungamano House, Nairobi on November 17, 2022, Ssimbwa was joined by other supposed “torture victims,” including Ssebuganda Richard (who lost his hand in a students’ strike at Makerere University in 2020), and Kamuswaga Moses (who was injured while attempting to detonate a tear gas canister in 2012). However, many of them were found to have been victims of normal accidents caused by boda-bodas and other natural incidents.

Ssimbwa, who is currently the NEED Party National Coordinator of Persons with Disabilities, praised Joseph Kabuleta for following up on his case and promising to pay his hospital bills. He however cautioned youths to not be used by self-seeking politicians, who abandon them after achieving their goals.
