In Ghana, West Africa, fourteen countries are competing in the all-Africa Para Games, including Uganda. The first-ever African Para events were opened at the Trust Sports Emporium in Accra on Sunday, September 3, 2023, making history and will run till the 12.

The 2023 African Championships wheelchair basketball competition will determine which African country advances to the IWBF Paris 2024 Repechage Tournaments in April of next year.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) states that this year’s theme is “Inspire a Better Africa,” with the hashtag #WalkInMyShoe serving as a means of eradicating the negative connotation associated with para sports in African countries.

According to the organising committee, the goal of the Africa Para Games is to allow Paralympic athletes to achieve the highest level of sporting excellence.

The tournament encompasses a total of eight para sports disciplines, including para athletics, para powerlifting, para taekwondo, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair basketball, goalball, sitting volleyball, and blind football.

According to the Uganda delegation, Uganda fielded two teams for the games: wheelchair basketball and amputee football.

In the inaugural match of the amputee football tournament in Group A, Ghana achieved a resounding victory over Uganda with a scoreline of 7-0. The match took place at the USPA Astroturf.

The participating countries at the Africa Para Games in Ghana are Uganda, Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, Angola, Kenya, Rwanda, Algeria, and Liberia, among others.
