A truck travelling at high speed on Sunday, August 27, 2023, knocked two people dead before colliding into the mosque in Busowa town council, Bugiri district, along the Jinja-Busia Highway.

The unidentified pregnant woman, along with other deceased individuals, was transported to the Bugiri General Hospital mortuary for further examination and investigation.

According to eyewitnesses, a fuel truck that was travelling from Iganga district ran over two individuals, then crashed into a mosque, damaging part of the mosque.

“The driver of the truck registration number KDE144Q fled the scene for fear of being attacked by the local community, “revealed the angry eye witnesses.

Mohammed Naminya, the Imam of the mosque, said that 12 students who were attending lessons at the mosque escaped unharmed but lost all study materials.

The Uganda Police Traffic Department named Jinja-Iganga as one of the dark spots with the highest number of road accidents and appealed to the drivers to reduce speed.
