Police Spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga has applauded Uganda’s long-distance runner Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei after winning gold in the 10,000m at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
During a press release on Monday, August 21, 2023, Enanga said that as police, they are very proud of their own after Cheptegei clocked a time of 27:51:42 to complete a hat-trick of victories.
Cheptegei, who is also a serving police officer with the Uganda Police Force at the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), has won the race three times following his earlier wins in Doha, Qatar (2019), and Oregon, USA (2022).
“As police, we are very proud of his performance, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) congratulates you, and the whole country is proud of you,” Enanga said.
Cheptegei appreciated the different stakeholders for their support, and among them is the Uganda Police Force, where he serves.
“I am very excited and proud that I have succeeded in winning my third world title in a row; this was the best possible way to end the season. I am so proud that I have an amazing team around me, and with our work together, we made it possible to win for the third time,” Cheptegei said.
“This might be my last championship on the track. That’s why this gold medal means even more,” Cheptegei added.
At the age of 26, he entered the record books as the fourth man to claim a hat-trick of world 10,000m titles, following in the spikemarks of the Ethiopian greats Haile Gebrselassie and Kenenisa Bekele, who both won four, and Britain’s supreme championship performer, Mo Farah.
