The Ministry of ICT & National Guidance, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has today, August 17, 2023, launched a 5 year road map of digital transformation to strengthen Ugandan service delivery at all levels.
The UNDP resident representative, Elsie Attufuah, explained that digital transformation is accelerating in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, and people need to embrace the digital future since it is arriving faster than expected.
“Digital transformation can help accelerate progress towards every single one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” Attufuah said.

According to Aminah Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT & NG, this Digital Transformation roadmap is designed on the Digital Uganda Vision 2040, aimed at transforming Uganda into a modern and prosperous country.
“Today represents a significant milestone towards a technologically advanced and digitally empowered future for Uganda. Digital Transformation is for our young Ugandans, and today we stand on the cusp of a new age.” Said Zawedde.
The chief guest, vice president Jessica Alupo, acknowledged that ICT is more than a sector; it is a catalyst that will permeate every aspect of our lives, including businesses and institutions.
“The digital age is not merely upon us; it is part of us. Every text, every search, every connection, and every application represents a collective shift in the global context and environment,” said Alupo.
Vice President Alupo added that this launch marks a moment in history for Uganda and called upon all Ugandans to embrace the changes brought about by the digital age since it is closely linked to the digital world.
The launch was attended by different representatives, including Chris Baryomunsi, who is the minister of ICT, and State Minister for Higher Education John Chrysostom Muyingo, who said they are training and incorporating digital skills into our education curriculum.
Resident representative Elsie Attufuah thanked UNDP Uganda’s Digitalization, Innovation, and Smart Cities (DISC) Programme for supporting the Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of ICT and other public and private sector actors, to promote digitalization as an accelerator of Uganda’s structural transformation.
