The President of the Federation of Uganda’s Football Associations (FUFA), Moses Magogo, has provided an update on Uganda’s joint bid to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

While addressing the media at FUFA House in Mengo today, July 25, 2023, Magogo expressed confidence in the bid’s success, highlighting its endorsement by three Heads of State.

Magogo noted that Uganda-Kenya, Tanzania, and Botswana are the only countries competing for AFCON 2027 that have never previously hosted Africa’s premier football tournament.

“Further on Uganda’s readiness, stating that the venues to be utilized for the event had already been presented like Muteesa II, St. Mary’s, and Namboole Stadiums, are among the facilities that will be upgraded,” Magogo said.

Magogo stated that the government is actively involved in engaging private investors to support this initiative and revealed that the plans include constructing new stadiums in Hoima and Lira, adding to Uganda’s portfolio of venues for the event.

Meanwhile, the CAF Inspection team is scheduled to visit Uganda on July 28th, followed by a trip to Tanzania on July 29th.

In collaboration with Kenya and Tanzania, under their respective football governing bodies – the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) – FUFA submitted a joint bid named “the 2027 AFCON Pamoja bid” in May.
