Close to 200 students from Nakanyonyi Senior Secondary School in Nagalama, Mukono District, have been rushed to the hospital over suspected food poisoning.
Students were seen collapsing and vomiting shortly after having meals in the afternoon of Thursday, July 20, 2023.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigire, the Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, the situation at Nakanyonyi Senior Secondary School is being closely monitored by Nagalama Police.
“Several students have been rushed to hospitals in the area due to severe stomach pains. Investigations are underway to determine the cause,” Owoyesigira said.
Owoyesigire also noted that samples of the food they ate have been taken to the Government Analytical Laboratory in Kampala for testing.
So far, no deaths have been confirmed, and some students have already been discharged.
