Uganda is hosting the fourth international conference & exhibition on water storage and hydropower development for Africa which is a three day summit hosted at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala, Uganda. The summit started yesterday, on Monday, July 10, 2023, and will climax on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
The objective of the conference is to bring together experts from all parts of the world to focus on issues related to water conservation and hydropower development.
With over 500 delegates from over 50 countries and experts from all parts of the world, the meeting will boost foreign exchange and contribute to the hospitality industry.
Besides attending workshops & training seminars, participants will enjoy networking opportunities, cultural excursions, and tours of hydro schemes in Uganda, which will showcase the beauty of Uganda to visitors.
Also important, the session will address critical challenges and future plans for hydropower development, assess evolving trends and challenges in the nexus between water resources and hydropower development, and share experiences and best practises as well as research and innovation.
With Uganda being one of the major hydropower producers in the region, the conference will offer solutions and answers to the untapped potential of the energy sector in Uganda.
The theme for the fourth conference is “Water Storage and Hydropower Development for Africa.”
The event was officially opened by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa.
“Uganda has a lot of potential, specifically for hydropower on the River Nile. Like the planned 840 MW Ayago, among others. We also have plans to explore wind, floating solar, and nuclear to increase our installed capacity,” Nankabirwa said.
Nankabirwa added that Uganda is harnessing her potential for nuclear energy, geothermal, solar, and hydroelectricity through the Ministry of Energy, and all of these are aimed at increasing energy access and cutting down trees in search of biomass.
In President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s recorded address, he urged delegates to work together to advance water storage and hydropower development for a brighter Africa.
