The Deputy Chief of Defense Forces, Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu, hosted a delegation from the Nigeria’s National Institute of Security Studies at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Mbuya, who are presently enrolled in an Executive Intelligence Management Course at the Institute in Abuja.

Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu stated that the relationship between Uganda and Nigeria should not be taken for granted due to the similarities between the threats posed by the Allied Democratic Forces and Boko Haram militants.

In his remarks to the participants, Lt. Gen. Elwelu stated that the two countries’ militaries, in particular, have a long-standing and positive relationship due to the exchange of Military Courses. “Numerous UPDF officers were trained in Nigeria. We take your trip from Abuja to Uganda very seriously and do not take it for granted,” said Lt. Gen. Elwelu.

Mr. Godwin Ometu, the head of the National Institute for Security Studies’ delegation, stated that it is time for Africans to promote Pan-Africanism and advocated for such a spirit to be taught in African universities due to the unique nature of Africa’s challenges.

Col. Nelson Ahebwa, Deputy Chief Political Commissar, stated in his presentation to the attendees that language is a unifying factor and that Africans are not aliens to one another.

The meeting was attended by Brig Gen James Kinalwa, Chief of Personnel and Administration, Brig Gen Charles Bakahumura, Chief of Logistics and Engineering, Brig Gen. Felix Kulayigye, Alex Olupot, and Fred Twinamasiko, Director of Training.
