The NRM Secretariat has concluded its mobilization drive in Wakiso district aimed at strengthening grassroots support.

During his speech at the last meeting held at the Botanical Gardens, Emmanuel Dombo, the director for communication, said that it is high time leaders focused on service delivery rather than politics.

“When elections are done, let us all come down to work for the people. I urge all elected leaders all over the country, irrespective of our political affiliations, to work for the people. The President has advised us to mobilize our people with interest. Let us not mobilize people who are poor. I therefore urge you, leaders, to advise our people to embrace government programs. This is the only way our people will lift themselves out of poverty,” Dombo said.

Dombo advocated for unity among NRM leaders as one of the ways to reclaim the party’s lost glory in Buganda.

“The NRM has to get back to the top in Buganda region, but this will only happen when we are united as a party and we work as a team. NRM will only grow if we recruit new members from different parties but also retain our old members,” he said.

Additionally, he mentioned that the NRM CEC will convene to receive instructions from the national party chairman on how to handle the problem of elections for the party league wing given that individuals in the positions are above the youthful age.

Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi, the NRM vice chairperson for Central Region, said the party lost in Buganda because of divisions within the party. He added that they have established that there is a lot of government achievement, but only a few people explain it to the citizens.

“We now need to find ways to reclaim it. This is the reason why the party secretariat has come up with these mobilization meetings at the constituency level early enough before the next general elections,” Kiwanda said.

He urged the party to find ways to enlist more youths because they make up the majority, and doing so will help the party’s support grow.

The NRM secretariat has embarked on a mission to streamline operations and avoid a repeat of acts that have negatively affected the party.
