On June 5, 2023, Hon. Francis Zaake, Member of the 11th Parliament representing Mityana Municipality, stormed the constitutional court, demanding a reversal on the decision to impeach him from the house as a Parliamentary Commissioner.

He argued that the court should restore his status as Parliamentary Commissioner and compensate him for the time he has been out because the delays have cost him a lot of money and continue to negatively impact his social standing.

“I have engaged relevant authorities at the court who have expressed regret for the delay and promised to remedy the situation so that I can get back to the Parliamentary Commission position and get compensated for the time I have been out. I will keep perusing the truth since I was unfairly dismissed and it has negatively impacted my family,” Zaake said.

However, according to Baale Thomas, one of Zaake’s close associates, his (Zaake) funds are in disarray following his extravagant expenditure and expensive parties, which were held so close together.

“Zaake was living a very lavish lifestyle and held very expensive functions close to each other; the introduction was on August 27, 2022, and the wedding on September 8, 2022. He had the money then, but he is feeling the pinch now with the economy biting hard. He is now using cheap tailors and materials for his suits that’s why his clothes are getting torn in public,” Baale said.

Recently, Zaake appeared for prayers at the Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations dressed in a very tight-fitting bust coat with buttons close to giving way and a torn trouser. This, according to sources, is evidence of his financial struggle.

“Zaake’s attire at Namungongo was shameful; a whole Member of Parliament dressed like a poor farmer from the village. A person who earns more than Shs 20M every month as an MP and remits only Shs 5M to his party president shouldn’t look or dress like that, his fall from grace is starting to show from the cheap clothes he now wears,” the source stated.

Zaake was relieved of his duties as a commissioner after the parliamentary disciplinary Committee found him guilty of insulting Speaker Anita Among on social media.

Whether his demands will be met and he will be reinstated and compensated is for the courts to decide.
